The Shuswap Band, along with the support of the Shuswap Nation Tribal Council, Okanagan Nation Alliance, and Ktunaxa Nation Council, successfully hosted our third ceremonial salmon release in May of 2024.
This event marked a significant milestone as we welcomed sockeye salmon back into the Columbia River after over 80 years and named a Salmon Chief for the first time in recent memory. The experience was deeply emotional and moving for our community, as we reconnected with our cultural traditions and teachings that are intertwined with the presence of salmon.
