Media Launch
On March 23, 2020, Secwépemc Nation called a State of Emergency due to Covid-19 to exercise our collective rights and sacred responsibilities for the health and safety of our members and enact Nation protective measures that poses an existing or imminent threat to our vulnerable Elders, and members with pre-existing and chronic health conditions within Secwepemcúl’ecw.
The Secwépemc called on the Province of BC to comply with UNDRIP and the Government of Canada uphold the Crowns constitutional and fiduciary obligations to the Secwépemc Nation and uphold the Section 15 of Canadian Charter of Rights & Freedoms that gives Secwépemc rights to equal protection; equal benefits; without discrimination.
The attached video is a testament to the resilience of our Secwépemc Kukukwpi7. The Nation is stronger through Covid-19!
Secwépemc Nation initiatives have included developing and implementing funeral protocols, Traditional Wellness Plans, and weekly virtual meetings to collaborate and strengthen our Nation.
