Job Posting: Senior Summer Camp Leader
Term: July 4th - August 17th
Salary: To be determined
Shuswap Band will once again hold a Summer Camp for kids aged 5-12 starting July 11th and ending August 17th. We are looking for 1 Senior Summer Camp Leader. Hours of work will depend on activities.
Responsibilities:

  • Delivers a safe, fun summer at Camp Shuswap. Is responsible for all summer camp operations. Ensures the camp is running smoothly. Anticipates and deals proactively with problems.

  • Implements all safety procedures. Monitors safety at Camp and recommend changes.

  • Fosters a positive and nurturing camp environment for all staff and participants. Qualifications:
    • First Aid
    • Experience and enjoy working with children
    • Enjoy working outdoors and ability to be crafty
    • Drivers license
    • Food Safe
    • This job requires a Criminal Record Check

Job Posting: Junior Summer Camp Leader
Term: July 4th - August 17th
Salary: To be determined
Shuswap Band will once again hold a Summer Camp for kids aged 5-12 starting July 11th and ending August 17th. We are looking for 1 Junior Summer Camp Leader aged 14-18 Hours of work will depend on activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists Senior Summer Camp Leaders with summer camp operations including but not limited to day-to-day planning, set-up and clean-up.

  • Assists Senior Summer Camp Leader with leading young participants on a fun learning adventure including field trips out of town.

    Qualifications:
    • First Aid or willingness to obtain
    • Enjoy working with children
    • Some experience working or supervising children
    • Enjoy working outdoors and ability to be crafty
    • Drivers licence would be helpful but is not mandatory
    • Ability to provide Social Insurance Number

The Shuswap Band is seeking the services of a Maintenance Person on a part-time on-call basis. The Maintenance Person will perform a wide variety of general maintenance activities (carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, moving furniture) performing repairs or general maintenance work of facilities, buildings, grounds, and equipment at various sites, replacing broken fixtures, painting and performing minor repairs. 

Responsibilities will include the collaborating with workers such as electricians and plumbers to help diagnose and fix different issues as they arise.

The individual must be able to complete projects within an established time frame.

Must have valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Job Posting:            TERRITORIAL OPERATIONS OFFICE ASSISTANT

Start Date:                  May 15, 2017 (Interviews tentatively scheduled for May 11)

Salary:                        Negotiable

Term:                          Full-time (32.5hours/week), permanent

Oversees:                    N/A

Reporting to the Director of Territorial Operations, the Office Assistant assists staff in maintaining schedules, answers calls through the main number, opens and sorts mail, assists in the preparation of invoices, timesheets, maintains a roster of available workers for labourer-level positions, manages the hardcopy and electronic filing system, and provides other general and administrative support to Territorial Operations and Chief and Council.

This position may be initiated as a mentored person, subject to results of job interviews.

The Office Assistant will have a good understanding of the following:

  • Office Procedures, including mail distribution, maintaining a filing system, call management techniques, preparation of meeting notes, letters and brief communications reports.
  • Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel

The successful applicant will possess good interpersonal and communications skills, an ability to interact effectively with community members, Band staff and technical personnel from government agencies and the corporate sector.

The successful candidate should possess a valid BC Drivers License.  

A preference will be given to applicants who are members of the Shuswap Indian Band.

Job Posting:            CONSULTATION COORDINATOR

Start Date:                  May 15, 2017 (Interviews tentatively scheduled for May 11)

Salary:                         negotiable

Term:                          Full-time (32.5hours/week), permanent

Oversees:                    N/A

Reporting to the Director of Territorial Operations, the Consultation Coordinator reviews and files incoming referrals and related correspondence, maintains a referral tracking ledger, provides a weekly summary of incoming referrals, prepares draft response letters, memos, briefing notes and other correspondence, prepares invoices, budgets for referral-related assessments, attends internal/external meetings, including training sessions and provides recommendations on procedural improvements for consultation.

 

The Consultation Coordinator will have a good understanding of the following:

  • Current First Nations Rights and Title issues that affect land use, government and industry relations;
  • Current case law affecting aboriginal rights and title;
  • Federal and provincial legislation / policies affecting land use; and
  • Shuswap Indian Band community, culture and Secwepemc values.

Good interpersonal and communications skills, an ability to work effectively with community members, Band staff and technical personnel from government agencies and the corporate sector, along with a good level of proficiency in MS Office software, social media, is essential.  GIS operator experience and training would be an asset.  A candidate who has limited or outdated training or experience in these areas but is strongly motivated to increase their skill level may also be considered.

The successful candidate will possess a valid BC Drivers License, a good working knowledge of the provincial and federal government lands and resources referral process, current BC and Canada Consultation Guidelines, and the Secwepemc RFA Single Window Access Portal.
